Yesterday, I took the P22 out for a little range time and after the second magazine the slide wouldn't stay back on an empty magazine.  A closer look revealed the slide is fractured in line with the slide stop knotch.  I have the box my P22 came in, but I'm missing the instruction manual.

Do you have a phone number to call Walther customer service?  Thanks!

I called and they said they would e-mail me a FedEx return slip.  I guess they will e-mail it on Monday.  I will keep this updated as it progresses.

Its no wonder the new version of the P22 has a slightly different slide configuration.

I believe it's still a zinc alloy casting however...

I got it back this week with a new slide.  It feels gritty, but functions fine with Remington bulk pack.

Picks of new slide so I can see the profile change please?

Mine happened today, right after the front sight. I can email pics to if someone can post em.

Mine cracked about the same time as the post above this. the crack on mine is about the same place as the OP. Mine is on the front side of the slide catch, all the way through. I sent it to S&W a week ago.

It has upwards of 8,000 rounds through it- maybe 10K. Not bad for a $200 gun. I've had not failures in that time. The only failures to cycle were with Aquila no powder rounds, or 22 shorts.

My brothers cracked. They sent a mailing slip. Two weeks later a new slide came back.

Gun works flawlessly now.

Is this a common problem with the P22, if it is did S&W address it, I have a P22 that i bought about 4 years ago, should I be concerned?

Almost tempted to put my slide in the arbor press to help it along so they give me a decent slide that functions. Would not be honest, so I will not.

No offense, but you guys who buy P22's are crazy. Seems like their lifespan average is about 500 rounds, if that.

More fail than ever should. I'm glad you like yours and that it has served you well, but many have been an ongoing pain in the backside to many owners. The P22 & the "Sig" Mosquito are both severely flawed designs from the same maker, Umarex.
