Recently, the wife's P238 has had 3 or 4 instances of where the case has failed to eject, locking the slide open with the next round jammed underneath it. The case is mostly out of the camber, resting on top of the next round. The gun has about 700 rounds through it and is cleaned after every session. I believe the FTF is a result of the FTE, not the other way around, but I could be wrong.
After the last range session, I was hand-cycling snap caps through it and there were several instances where the cap was not ejected. The extractor looks fine other than some of finish worn off it. It does not appear to be damaged in any way. Previous to this, the only malf was a single stovepipe on the guns first time out. I attributed this to either the rather wimpy Prvi stuff she was shooting, the wife limping it, or it just being new. Suggestions or ideas appreciated. |
| My wife's 238 had similar issues. I called SIG customer service, and was told that the recoil springs should be replaced very frequently - IIRC, every 500 rounds. Also, the recoil spring design was changed from a round-wire spring to a flat-wire. After switching to the new flat-wire, extraction & ejection was much more positive. |

Thanks guys. There appears to be no damage to the recoil spring and it is the newer version. I have an extra I can try as I purchased it from TGS when the wife got the pistol. 500rds seems a low count to replace one though, I believe the manual says 1500 IIRC. It's worth a try.
If that seems to cure it, I guess I'll stock up on them. |

The round recoil spring needs replacing at approximately 700 rounds. The newer flat recoil spring should last 1100-1500 rounds (I can't remember, but it's in the manual.). Call Sig, they'll send you a new one. +P will also accelerate wear (i,e. Buffalo bore). Definitely have the flat spring. |
