Could one of you who is still serving down on the line (and not relegated to a staff job like me) post a photo of the part number on the left side of the current issue M17 and M18 slides? I’d like to compare them to the “military production” pistols being sold by Proven Arms and some other dealers. Thanks!

Part numbers are the same on Proven Arms as the military ones.

Minus the optic, exactly the same. The real question is will this be available to everyone?

If they are smart they would  make these with a civilian serial number module, not the gov't contract modules with the TC or TF prefixes.

I’m kind of expecting them to have M17 and M18 serial number prefixes like the original commercial models, since they’re marketing them to the civilian audience. I’m curious if they’ll have the manual safety cutout. I’d personally prefer to stick with that since my others are all set up that way. Notching the XSeries grip and adding the manual safety is easy.

Could always just add it yourself. Only a $30 part and a Dremel to the grip.

The safety kit lists for $99 and has a street price around $80 - example here. It uses a different trigger bar, which adds to the price. That also assumes it has the cutout in the FCU, as I mentioned above. Hopefully they’re just using the standard commercial M17 FCU and leaving out the manual safety to make it easy.

Sorry, was basing it off of only having to get the $10 safety lever pin to delete the Manuel safety on the m17/18. So assumed it would just be the same in reverse.

I don't see why it wouldn't use the m17/18 FCU as they are using the contract slides. Additionally, from my understanding, sigs "320 m17/18" are marked that because they have the manual safety cut out. I don't see why they would break from that now. Sig has been offering military packages to the civilian market and I haven't seen anything as of yet that suggest this is a departure from that.

In stock, “limited quantities,” at Osage County:

M17X - $1429.99

M18X - $1429.99

The price seems about right for including the ROMEO-M17, X grip, and flat trigger.

The Romeo M17 alone costs nearly $700 to get independently. That’s a damn good price for what amounts to a X-Series P320 with Sig’s top-of-the-line military pistol optic

When you get a chance, could you pull the FCU and verify that it has the manual safety cutout? I’m sure it does, given the M18 serial number prefix, but I’d like to know for sure. Thanks, and enjoy the new pistol!

Thanks for posting those. Well, it looks like SIG really doesn’t want to include provisions for the manual safety if they can avoid it. Or maybe they want to avoid any confusion in the assembly process. It just seems like it would be cheaper to use one FCU design, especially if they’re receiving the same serial number prefix.

I’m really happy with the one I put together myself, so no big deal on my end.

Very nice.  It looks like they used the GI contract slide and did not use a GI contract barrel.  SIG just doesn't make sense to me how they do things.  For example, no provision for the safety.  I guess one of the reasons you can't get a Romeo M-17 are these pistols.  I've contacted SIG about purchasing a GI slide and they have told me they can't sell those to the public.  I would like to have an extra slide with a M-17 optic for my issued weapon.  I don't think the military is getting the Romeo M-17 yet.  All I see is the DPP.  I might just pick one of these M18X pistols for the optic/slide and part the rest out.

I took the M18X out to my range for a short trip.  100 rounds of Speer Lawman 124gr ball all fired from 25 yards.  No adjustment on zero, shot like it came right out of the box.

Nothing formal.  Series of draw from the holster and 2-5 shot sequences, pretty quick firing.  Maybe another ms or two on the headshots.

Overall it was great.  Noticeable recoil, typical of any plastic gun.  First time I've shot with a circle around the dot on the RDS.  I liked it fine.  Didn't get in my way.  It'd probably help with less experienced shooters find the dot in stress.  So, perfect for the military.

I see that they've updated the 21-round magazines with the orange follower. I'm not sure it really makes any difference, but I like it. In theory, it should help you quickly identify when your magazine is empty vs. some other malfunction locking the slide back.

I never really buy the comments from people that say "[insert manufacturer] is prohibited from selling these to the public because of their military contract," but maybe there's some truth to it in this case. It certainly seems like they made choices with these pistols that are probably more costly and make the parts selection and assembly a little more complicated. Maybe they can't sell the military production / contract guns directly to the public, so by only using the slide, they get around that. That could also explain why they're only selling the complete contract pistols through the professional program.

I haven't been to the range since I moved six months ago. Life has been busy. I'm dying to put some more rounds through my military production M17 and ROMEO-M17, shoot my M18 for the first time, and try out the M1153 JHPs in both pistols.
