Does the trigger group from a .45 P320 fit in the other caliber frames?
For example, if I got a compact 9mm frame, slide, and barrel. Would the fire control fit? Thanks |

Thanks It isn't an 100% yes or no answer. The .45 Fire Control l Unit (FCU) does fit into the 9mm frame and slide. However there are differences, some parts can be swapped but the ejector between the two are different. I attended a SIG P320 factory armorer course last fall and asked this exact question. The instructor told me yes, both 9mm and 45apc FCU are the same, but the 45 FCU will need a few parts switched out to get it to work with the 9/40/357 FCU. The main parts to change were the Take Down Safety Lever and the Trigger Bar. During that course, I gathered that the instructor was getting annoyed from my questions about the .45 FCU. SIG seems to be focusing on the 9/40/357 models and not so much on the 45. I can verify that any P320 FCU will fit any grip module and any slide. I have not switched out the safety lever and trigger bars. The ejector between the two FCU's are different, with the 45 FCU being shorter. The ejector is a fixed part of the FCU. After looking at the two different FCU's, I think it might be possible to turn a .45acp FCU into a 9/40/357 FCU, but not the other way around. The 9/40/357 ejector is longer and may interfere with the larger 45acp case during extraction/ejection. Here is a picture I found on Google (not my picture) :

No. Wrong, There have been numerous people who have successfully used the .45 FCU for 9mm, 40 and .357 sig. Sig will not admit it, but they do work. Sig will not say yes to it because the magazine takedown safety does not work on the smaller calibers when using the .45 FCU, but as long as your shit is unloaded you'll be fine when taking it apart. |

Interesting, I've not heard that before. But doesn't the different ejector on the 45 FCU that user 220ST pointed out affect function? And can you go the other way and use a 9/40/357 FCU on a 45 slide/grip? |

Sure, you can put a 9/40/357 FCU in a 45 grip, but you won't be able to seat a 45 magazine in it or use it with 45 because of the magazine takedown safety. Also the 45 grips will not lock in on 9/40/357 mags. |

I've got both a 45 and a couple 9mms, and the FCU is interchangeable...not sure how useful it is in the 9 frames, but it drops in.
The 45 is a sweet shooter IMO. I need to find a compact medium frame for it and I'll be happy. And a holster that correctly fits it. The 45 slide is fractionally wider than the 9mm slide even though the frames are the same, so while a 45 grip module will fit in a 9mm holster just fine...the slide requires a lot of effort to get in and out, especially with kydex. I'm sure a leather holster has enough give to make it right at home after it breaks in, though it might become too loose for a 9mm after a while. There's a couple of makers that can make 45 compact holsters, and Rings makes a compact 45 blue mold gun...but they don't make a full-size and when I asked them, they said there's not a lot of demand for a mold for that model yet, though they can make one if the demand is there. |

That's great news. Will correct my post. |

Lol. That's a thought. After the trigger jig/Hera thumbhole/AR5.7 upper experiment, I was thinking to expand into HIPoint grips.
The smaller you go w/ plastic bricks, the more difficult everything becomes. A working stock that would stand up to recoil took me over a year to design and what, 8 revisions?. 1911 grips only took me a few weeks. They're not drop safe, however. Easily repaired, however. Might have to try Plumber's Cement. Maybe once I get back from deployment I'll have the cash for a P320 & get interested in it. I think someone needs to make P320 80% frames. I'm also still hoping for a P320 grip module that takes Glock mags - then I could wholeheartedly jump on the platform. |
