My P7 is having some problems. I probably have a few hundred rounds through it and recently the slide has starting sticking when it goes all the way back. The slide stop isn't catching it and when I squeeze the Squeeze Cocker it doesn't go forward either. It has happened a few times when I'm out shooting it so i have to hit it with my palm to get it forward again.

I have cleaned and oiled it several times to see if that helps but it keeps sticking. When i Pull the slide back slowly i can feel that it's catching but i just can't figure out what it is. Has anyone had this problem before or does anyone have any suggestions?

I appreciate any help. Thanks.

Have you checked the gas retard rod to see if it is carboned up? It should be self cleaning, but that is all I can think of.

By gas retard rod do you mean the piston? I have cleaned the piston and am still having the problem. I will try cleaning the piston tube tonight.

Yes the piston, it may have carbon up inside that is catching on the rod as it tries to go forward.

I cleaned the piston and got a lot of the carbon build up off. Still having the problem. I will clean the piston tube tonight and see if it helps. It seems to be the piston where it's locking up so hopefully that will help.

How about trying to clean inside where the rod goes. There might be some carbon in there gunking it up.

Just cleaned the piston tube. It's working fine now. HK says not to clean the tube till about 500 rounds depending on ammo. I guess the ammo I was using wasn't the 500 because I haven't put that much through it yet

Thanks for the help guys.

You have to be careful what you use to clean the barrel with.  I used a bore snake with clp and had a similar problem.  Clp would get in the gas tube through the hole in the bottom of the barrel.  That caused carbon build up in the gas tube.  I switched to Kroil and have not had any problems since.  Kroil cleans better and I do not use clp for anything any more.

ETA; You should not have to clean the gas tube much at all.

FWIW, it's the cylinder (tube) that needs to be cleaned not the piston. You can actually damage the piston by cleaning it. They are actually self cleaning and all you should do is simply wipe it off with a rag that has whatever cleaner you use and then hit it with a dry one. Never oil it! As long as you use the scraper on the cylinder after every range session what your experiencing will be a non-issue. The piston iit' self should have sharp edges which is why HK advises against cleaning them as the edges will dull over time. One more thing, don't use grease on a P7, just oil. They run so hot that I had one that the grease actually baked onto the slide.
