P89

I brought this for my wife, which didn't want it to start with.

I got it in 11/98. I put it in the safe and haven't touch it sense.

I got it out yesterday 10/14/05, YES, nearly 6 years later.

I thought why just let it set, doing nothing.

I went out to my range, and fired it 10 rolls. It wouldn't hit the broad side of a barn.

I took in and really cleaned it good. This Morning I loaded 10 more rolls. Win. 115 Gr.FMJ. Shooting from 35 feet, and

aiming dead center of a target 22 inches wide and 18 inches long. I hit the very bottom twice, aiming

at the very top, I hit 5 inches down from center. Grouped Ver. 2 inch. So, aiming at the top, it was

shooting 13 inches low, at 35 feet.

Side to side no problem, right on. Top to bottom, Total off.

I looked after shooting as I was cleaning it. Barrel has a ring around the bottom front about 1/2 inch back

from the muzzle. Put it back together, and looked at the muzzle end. The barrel sets canted to the

bottom to the recoil rod.

Now I have to suppose, this is the reason for shooting LOW.

I was wondering, if Ruger would look at this. And how do you contact them , in regard to something

like this.

Anyone else every had such a thing, with their P-89??

Thanks,

ttusus

ruger pistol service link

give them a call.  i had an extremely minor issue with my p95 and they gave me excellent help.  they sent me replacement parts and offered to walk me through the repair over the phone.

there is also the possibility that your sights are way off.  i would suggest shooting at a closer target.  i am not doubting your shooting skills but that iff you are way off target at 3m then that might help better the diagnosis.

I have the same problem with my 89. My firend seems to think that I am just a bad shot hoot. It would be great if we could fix this problem!!

i would give them a full 2 business weeks before you call them.  i only say that because they probably have other stuff to do besides your pistol.  and they were very good about calling me when they were sending out the parts i needed.

So what did you send in? The whole gun or what? Heard from em?

Walter   ..

Yes, I sent the whole P-89 in less the clip.

The problem was the barrel crown. They recrowned it, that is all they found.

Which would cause the problem for sure. A burr can deflect a lot.

Rec'd it back today 11/3/05 by overnight Fedex.

Haven't shot it yet, going to in the morning.

Let you know how it does, if you want.

Thanks,
B.

I've only had 2 FTF with my p89 and I'm well over 8,000 rounds. I must be just one of the lucky ones I guess.

I shot it 2 times. In 5 shot groups.

Shooting from 30ft. , it is right on target.

So, the crown was the problem.

I did notice, that the first 2 shots, were a little off, the next 8 were on.

LOL, I bet is was the one behind the gun.

i am glad that ruger got your pistol fixed and working well.  now you just have to feed it a steady diet and enjoy it.
