I own a couple handguns but nothing like the Walther.  I did have an XD-40 for awhile.  My friend had one  (.40cal), seemed to function great.  I have been looking at them recently and I have a couple questions regarding the .40 and .45 cal's.  How do the P99's seem to perform as far as: Accuracy, fit/function, quality and finish?  Also, I see that you have a choice of an actual Walther or a S&W/Walther, which I know mechanically are the same, but have any of you noticed a true difference between the two?  Warranty issues?  Lastly, has anyone installed nightsights on theirs (Meprolight/Trijicon) does one fit/install better than the other?  Any and all info would be greatly appreciated, Thanks.

OK here is the skinny

S&W imports most of the Walther P99

SW 99 comes in 45, 40 , & 9mm  Walther p99 comes in 40 & 9mm

Both have compact and service sizes available:  my opinion S&W Compact is better

Walther frames come in green black & desert sand is new this year S&W in black only

S&W no longer produces a SW99 the SW990 replaced it this year the difference is the 990 is double action only and does not have the decock button.

Walther is now offering the P99 AS with a smaller decock button and more refined trigger.

I find the Walthers have better fit and finish than my S&W but there is no difference in accuracy about 2.5" at 25 M from a bench I can shoot 4"-6" with the service size pistol at 25 M standing

I installed Trijacon on My P99 It was easy however the front sight needed Lock tite and I had to customize a socket on my lathe in order to tighten the screw enough to be satisfactory they do work great

However both guns come with 3 front sights the Night sights only come in the middle size front site no option fro change

hope this helps good luck

My friends Walther 99 seems to be built well. The long DA might throw ya, as the long take up in SA mode. It seems to be a good gun, I just can't get used to the trigger pull compared to my guns. He did have 1 major problem, while qualifying , the gun failed to cycle and needed to be sent to the fatory for repair. cap springs I think was the diagnosis.

I am extremely fond of my P-99. It has been in my stable longer than any other pistol, with no intensions of leaving.

There is just something about the way it fits my hand, do I love it so.

I also have a walther p99 9mm and it is a nice fitand  to shoot its dead on ,I like the changeable backstraps and the poly guiderod I swapped out with a stainless one w/dual recoil springs from sprinco.now that I have that its a steady diet of cor-bon+p.

Anyone have thoughts on what the values of the SW99s in .45acp did after the DAOs became the only offering? I confess to liking mine but have shot it too little.

The S&W 99 values have not increased yet but it has only been discontinued for a few months.

However since these were only made for a limited time in limited numbers in a few decades they may be  considered rare and valuable especially in 45apc and sub-compact which are very limited production numbers
