I can't choose between the Sig 226(base model) or springfield XD9. I like that the XD9 is only $400-$500, but the 226 seems like it is built just that little bit better. Which one would you get? |
Which ever one fits your hand better is my recommendation. I got a P226 that I love and am looking at getting an XD Compact for the .40S&W slot in the lineup. Both are similar grip shapes to the 1911 and are made for actual humans unlike the that the Glocks are made for. Both will do you well. wganz PS. You didn't add "GET BOTH" to the poll. |
| Is this your first gun, next gun or only gun? How will you mainly be using it? Personally, I have two Sigs and am looking to get an XD subcompact for a ccw. The Sig 226, 228 and 229 are all excellent guns, but are just a little large and weighty for a primary ccw IMO. Otherwise, get the Sig. |

Here's my $.02 FWIW... 1) Go to a shooting range that rents the Sig and the XD. 2) Rent both firearms at the same time if they'll let you. Otherwise, see if you can reserve the other gun for testing it right afterwards. Tell 'em you're looking for a new handgun and you want to try it out. I'm sure they'll comply. 3) Buy (or bring if you can) about 100 rounds of ammo for each weapon. 4) Shoot the weapons and see which one feels better in your hands, which one is more accurate while you're shooting, and THEN think about which one you want. My I have XD's, Glock's, 1911's, Sig's, and Para Ordnance P14's and I love 'em all. Each weapon serves it's own role. I can say though that I have been carrying my 4" XD45 w/ X300 & Dev Group switch in a Bladtech IWB holster for a LONG time now and have no issues. When I've come into contact w/ local LE guys (I'm prior LE), and they see what I'm carrying, they usually get quite jealous. To ME, my XD fits better and shoots better in my hands than my Sig's do. My g/f is the same way (which is why she bought a XD40 Compact). Anyhow, to get the best idea of what YOU should get, YOU should try 'em out and see what works better for YOU. Get the idea?? Take care, stay safe, and shoot straight... -Adam |
| I have a 239 on my hip as I type this and an XD 40 in the nightstand and both are fine quality handguns. Whichever one you like best - fits your hand best, you shoot better is the one you should go with. I would rather shoot the XD ONLY because if I drop it or it gets scratched I wont feel as bad as if bad things happened to the 239. |
