Ok I just picked up my PPK/S and I wanted to clean it. I have tried and tried to field strip it, but I cannot get the slide to come up when its pulled all the way back. I even had my neighbor try and no luck.. Any hints or help would be appreciated...

Thanks

John

In 25 years of owning PPK/S pistols, which includes German import guns, Interarms U.S. made guns, and Smith and Wesson U.S. made guns, I have never had (or even heard of) that problem.

Are you sure you're doing it right?

Are you pulling the trigger guard down and holding it to one side like you are supposed to?

Really I wish I could offer more help but I can't fathom what the problem is.  The rear of the slide should pull right up when it is all the way back.

EDIT: I am really thinking you must be forgetting to pull the trigger guard down and holding it to the side like you are supposed to.

It is a bit of a strange feeling operation.  I just broke mine down for the first time in some time, and had a little difficulty.  The key is to keep the trigger guard pulled down (mine catches, and will stay down).  When you are pulling the slide back, begin to pull upwards before you have pulled it all the way back.  It should just pull right off then.

My first time trying, I pulled the slide all the way back, and then pulled up.  It didn't work.  Second time I got it off no problem.  Hope this helps.

I find that the best way to keep the trigger guard down is to pull it down, then apply slight pressure (pushing it to the left) with the trigger finger of your right hand (assuming you are right handed) while gripping the weapon as normal.

Then, using the left hand, pull the slide ALL the way to the back and pull UPWARDS on the rear portion of it.

The slide should cant upwards at about a 30 degree angle and then slide forwards coming smoothly off the barrel.

Well thank you for the help. I will try again. I do it exactly like the manual states. I pull down on the trigger gaurd push to the left with my right index finger. I pull the slide all the way back with a slight upward tug. I can get the slide to lock all the way back without the mag in. I had my neighbor give it a try and he has a PPK/s. Its very strange....
