I recently refinished my pt99 and after assembling it and taking it to the range it occasionally wouldn't stay in single action when firing a round. The hammer would go forward. I initially thought the gun kote might be causing the slide to drag a bit. I put extra oil on the rails and that didn't solve the problem. The strange thing is..I can't recreate it by cycling the slide by hand. When I do..the hammer stays back every time. I had it to the range last Sunday and it's doing it on every round now. It wouldn't be a huge deal except the double action trigger is terrible. I took the slide off and worked the trigger / hammer by hand and if I "fire' the action and hold the trigger to the read, the hammer won't stay cocked. Put the slide back on and it does... ![]() Any suggestions? |

I'll give you a big hint, when you coat the hammer/sear; you have to remove all the paint from the sear areas via acetone (on a q-tip) before baking/letting the paint set up. What it sounds like is you left the coating on the sears areas (sear and hammer), and now do not have enough sear engagement for the sear to retain the hammer on slide closer. The reason that hammer is just going back to DA, and the pistol not going full auto, is that the slide is disengaging the transfer bar on charge, and this reengages the FP block (the FP block lifter is released/drops out of play). Also, when you tested just the frame, you did bump the disconnector with the triger pulled back (the hump on the trigger bar) to disengage the trigger bar before cocking the hammer back. Hate to say it, but you need to strip the frame back down, and do some paint removal on the sear and hammer sears. Also, make sure that you have the sear spring installed in the correct orientation. www.e-gunparts.com/productschem.asp?chrMasterModel=2040zPT-99 |

thanks for the info. I can say for a fact I have the spring in the right way..I was very careful to note the location /orientation of all springs when I took it apart. And I double checked during reassembly. the only thing I'm not sure of..is if I cleaned the gun kote off the hammer and sear. Soooooooooooo..apart it comes. Striker--->
