So I recently picked up a model C (constant pull, not compact) PX4 and took it to the range today. Love the gun for all but one thing, the magazines. The gun came with 2 17round magazines and boy-howdie these are by far the most difficult magazines I have ever tried to load. I have Glocks, Sigs, XDs, Rugers, 92fs, etc etc and these magazines are much harder to load than any others. I get to about 10 rounds and notice a major difference in how hard the magazines are to load, and by 15 its litterally near impossible to load them.
Is this a common problem? Any solutions (shorter magazine spring, etc)? |

I just got a PX4 9mm F series and have experienced the same thing with the PX4 mags, but was expecting it after hearing about it somewhere. (Here?)
Did you get one of the magazine loader assist thingies? (an angular piece of plastic that fits over the mag, you press down on it to push the previous round in far enough to get the second one in) I can fill the mags with the loader to the 17 round point with about the same difficulty (which is to say, "some"). Only the first round or two in an empty mag were easy to put in with fingers alone. The loader was fast enough, though I do worry about losing or breaking the damn thing. Did you get an inexplicable little cup with yours? I got a plastic part that the best I can figure is supposed to be used to scoop bullets out of a bin in approximately 17 round lots. There is a way to convert to using 92 mags I think. If you like those better it might be worth looking into. |

Hmm, don't think I got a mag loader...was figuring I would since it was bought new.
Yes I did get the stupid blue cup thing. My dealer said it was to keep the gun seperate from the magazine in the case...I don't believe him. lol Might look into the 92 mag thing, as those mags are easier to load... |
The more you use then the more they will break in, but yeah, the last few (I usually hand struggle with the last 2-4,) can be a tight fit. The mag loader should have came with it, it is the little plastic piece on top of the spare mag in this photo. I will however recommend the uplula pistol loader, I have since been able to retire all my mag loaders to a box in the garage since it will load everything I own pistol wise except for the uzi mags for the 9mm AR. But it does work with the 92, 96, PX4, all 7 XDs, Sigs, Glocks, Rugers, yada yada. Great piece of equiment for a few extra bucks, You can get it HERE from Midwayusa. Anyhow, here is the picture showing the beretta mag loader and the other things that should have been included (2 more differnt sized backstraps, the white box contains the cable lock, the extra mag, and the beretta cup), the cup is used to prevent the firearm from shifting in the case since it gets wedged in the foam between the base and lid, and is positioned as such to almost touch the trigger guard and almost rest across the bottom of the barrel, thus preventing serious movement.

I gots da for-tay
It did not come with a mag loader. The last three rounds were a bitch to load; the magazines "loosened" over time with no detriment to feeding. I think the little cup is there to 1) add support to the case so that it doesn't collapse in shipping 2) hold a fired shell or two in case your jurisdiction requires such tomfollery (think NYS CoBIS). |
