Just got this little guy and it is VERY accurate. First range trip I put 2 mags (12 rnds) down range for effect and just tp get used to it. Then I aimed 2 mags at the #8 on the target and tore a ragged hole at 30 feet (less 2 fliers an inch away). Problem is, with a full mag. I rack the slide and the first round just hangs there. I polished the feedramp and it is smoother but i still have to push on the slide to get it to go into battery (with HP adn FMJ). Not so if I only have 3-4 rounds in the mag--(they slide right in). It just happens to the 1st 1-2 rounds. Doe not matter what kind of ammo. Any suggestions? |

As you continue with your break in of the pistol I suspect the problem will go away. The mag springs will soften up a bit and not put so much pressure on those top two rounds. Disassemble your magazine and check the underside (i.e. the inside) of the feed lips for burrs or sharp edges. Check your fired brass for tell-tale marks that something is digging into them. If you find some, try rounding them off just a little with some 600 grit sandpaper - don't get carried away. If that fails to reslove the problem, a new magazine or new recoil springs may be in order. Give Kel-Tec a call and ask for customer service and tell them what is going on. Let us know how it works out for you. |

Have you done a detail strip of the Mag too? Lightly rub the spring flat on a sheet of scotchbrite. Make sure all the dust and stuff are gone, reassemble the mag, and do the "ruler" drill on it: take a rule or other suitably sized peice of wood and jam it down the mag repeatedly.... cycling the spring/follower etc. strip it again, remove any splinters, and put it back together. And then go shoot the crap out of it! (I have a Kel-Tec P32 from before they offered the 3-AT, and did the full fluff-buff on it per KTOG, and its reliable as hell - and my daily carry "nostril gun"). |

Thanks for your input! I will try to work on the mag a bit. The little F&B did help. I used #400 and followed up with #600 on the feedramp and it LOOKS much better and does feed noticibly better (still not perfect though). The mag tension definately seems to be the main part of the problem. |

I just bought a polishing kit for my Dremmel tool. It came with polishing compound. I used that and the bullet shaped felt to shine up the feed ramps. It really turned it into a mirror finish. WOW--I will do this with my M&P when it come sback from the factory for it's mag drop problem. I used the #600 paper on the inside of my mag feedlips as well. It seems to cycle better manually. I have no range report as I am on "family duty" this weekend and can't shoot. Will let you know how it goes... |

OK--Had a few mintues and stopped by the indoor range. I had just enough time to shoot 6 mags of Magtech FMJ. Racked the slide and the first round still sort of "hung there" not apparently on anything. A light tap and it went home. All rounds fed just fine and I did not have to tap after the first time--I had to make sure to get a full pull on the slide and let it go home completely on its own. No problems at all. Seems the more I shoot the better this gun gets. Break-in is important but I do recommend the feed ramp polishing! |

I hope that you are letting the slide snap home and not letting it go forward too slow. Mine will hang up if I don't pull it back and let it fly from the farthest rearward point of its travel. Any time I didn't retract it all the way and let it fly, I had to smack the back of the pistol to close the slide with a completely full mag. I keep one in the chamber and 6 in the mag so it is completely full all the time. |
| When I get a new gun or a new magazine I load them up to capacity and leave them that way for a day or two. After that they are going to take as much seating as they ever will. I did that with 3 mags with my P3AT and so far 200rds with out a single malfunction. |
Yep--gotta take it all the way back and release. |
I actually included that in my "fluff and buff". I also lightly hit the slide, bolt face, and barrel. Shot again today--not much-about 30 rounds and not a problem. |
| My P3At didn't extract properly. My first trip to the range with the non-slicked gun led to 7 failures to extract in 100 rounds. I went home and performed the hood mod and polished the ramp. I fired 150 rounds of magtech yesterday with no troubles. A little mod of the barrel hood really helps extraction immensely. I have not had even one failure to feed though... |
If it does, maybe a little lock-tite is in order. I haev not had that issue with mine yet--knock on wood. I have bought 2 NEW guns since I got my CCW. (within a month of each other.) both hda issues..... My previous buys were FTF and no real problems. |
Sometimes you just have to be patient with firearms, especially pocket pistols. Take the time to get it right before you carry it and you will be rewarded with years of readily-accessible protection. |
