1. Load Magazine

2. Insert Magazine

3. Chamber Round

4. Take Aim

5. Fire

6. Repeat steps 1-5

That's about all you need to do. Maybe clean it every now and then. Congrats on the new pistol.

Stainless or blue? Is there a " MK II" stamping on the safety? There is a recall on the P85s regarding the safety which is addressed in the P89. The MK II safety is in fact a P89 safety.

No "MKII" marked on the safety. I read about the recall and was going to call ruger. It's blue, or actually two tone, blue slide, gray/greenish frame.Haven't brought to the range yet.Cain't wait to try it out.

If I recall, the Ruger recall was for perhaps one firing pin that broke in two, with part of it sticking in the forward position.
I sent mine back in early '94, got the free 15 round mag offered under the recall, the safety was stamped MKII and I swear it even shot better!
Be advised the factory P-89 mags don't lock in to an '85, but most aftermarket mags fit both.

You'll find it to be very accurate.  Both mine are, particularly the one with adjustable rear sight.

These guns are built like a brick $#it house and can take a lot of punishment. Beware of using Greek Olympic ammo in them though.  On two occasions, brass that had flaked off the ammo clogged the firing pin hole and caused it to fail to fire.  I never encountered this condition with any other brand of ammo and I've used the following,  S&B, Wolf, MagTech, Winchester, PMP, PMC, L7A1 +P+, MFS, BrownBear, my own reloads.

Other than those two times, those guns have worked flawlessly.

Good Luck, and make that call to Ruger, its a real safety issue and needs to be remedied.

They are really good guns i have a 2 tone , I did have trouble fireing the Black Hill ammo seconds. I've decided your better off paying the extra $2 a box rather than saving it and having cycling problems. best of luck.
