I know this has been asked before, but I can't find it. If I have my Para barrel reamed out to 10MM, can I still shoot .40 through it? Also I forget what all I need for a conversion. Thanks much! |

On glocks the general idea is you do not shoot 40s&w in a 10mm barrel. While people have posted that they do it the overall idea I got from reading a bunch of threads is that since the round headspaces up front normally you are using other stuff to hold the round in place when running 40 in a 10mm and this causes stress on parts that don't really need anymore stress. I would love to hear a lot of folks say the 1911 is different and that is why I posted the above. |
No, although the case is still indexed on the extractor somewhat and not really the case mouth, this can lead to the case being too far forward of the FP/slide breech at loading and will result in light, or no primer ignitions. If you are looking to be semi both ways on the same barrel and you reload, then leave the chamber in 40, and throat lead the barrel out to 1.250 (will be around 1.165 to begin with). This will allow you to shoot 40's with a slight jump to lead, or cut 10mm case down to 40 length, and then long load then back to the 1.250 lengths to use full 10mm in the shortened cases. Note: don’t temp long loaded full 10mm loads in a 40 case, it’s not as strong as the 10mm case and chance a case failure. Better yet, since the Para barrel are a bit crap to begin with, leave the Para barrel in 40, then have a Bar-Sto 10mm barrel (with bushing) fitted to the pistol. The barrel and a spring swap (20lbs/24lbs units) would be all that is needed to go back and forth between the two. |
