I was at Sportsman's Warehouse yesterday. I wanted to see if they had a Springfield Armory Mil-Spec "Loaded" in stock. I am a big fan of Stainless Steel but, alas, they had none. However, they had a parkerized model in stock for about $650.

My question is how well does pakerizing hold up compared to Stainless Steel? Will is show a lot of holster wear if I carry it once in a while? Rust easily?

On another note, I would install a magwell, if I got this pistol. How hard is this to do? Does it require a pistol smith?

Thanks!

Well, to put it plainly, pretty much every military firearm is parkerized.  Parkerizing is very very durable and corrosion resistant.

As to the magwell, if you get an S&A or Wilson magwell that replaces the mainspring housing, it is very simple to install.

I don't recommend the magwells that utilize the grip screws to hold them in place.

Precision Gunworks has an excellent article on magazine well mods. As for Parkerizing, it's pretty tough stuff. You'd probably wear out a whole lot of holsters before you wore the Parkerizing off.
