I recently purchased a beretta 96a1 and i was wondering if i could switch the barrel from a 92 series and turn my .40 to a 9mm?  I called there customer service and they say no, but i have seen people say you could in other forums.

thanks!

You can swap an entire slide from .40 to 9mm but not just the bbl. Breechface & ejector are different on each caliber from the other.

Not sure which other sites you're listening to, but if you're not careful you'll hurt both yourself & your gun.

Generally speaking, yes you can. I am currently running a model 96 Centurion with a 9mm barrel. I've fired it more in that configuration than I have in its original .40 caliber. You will be better off using 9mm magazines. My Centurion runs perfectly that way. Try it and see for yourself. There are companies who make 9mm barrels for the .40 Glocks using the same principle.
