I was thinking earlier today about getting some new pepper spray (since I always end up giving it away to the ladies in my life who carry nothing), and also figured I should get a flashlight since I've been walking/jogging in the dark since the day light hours are getting shorter.
Which made me think about the possible situation where I do not yet have reason to bring out my pistol, but would still want protection. Escalation of force. During daylight I could have the pepper spray at the ready and still have my strong hand free to reach for my gun. However, at night if I used a flashlight to blind someone I only have one more hand free, which means I can't have the pepper spray at the ready without slowing access to my gun some if it escalates to needing it. Of course, I could just drop the spray, but it would still be slower than if I had my hand closer to draw position. So I thought wouldn't it be nice to have a flashlight that was also pepper spray. I knew there had to be something like that (pretty sure I've heard of it before) and performed a search. I found only 3 options and would like to know if anyone knows of any others. There's the Tigerlight, which is a full size flashlight and too big for my purposes. There's another option that is smaller and contains various light modes. Haven't inquired about the lumens or OC content (max 2% MI law), but it looks like a better option for my purposes. And then there's the MonaLisa Liberty which I've only found at trade sites, which means only sold in bulk. Again, I don't know the details on lumens and OC content. It also contains a siren. Only the MonaLisa Liberty seems to have the flashlight and spray both pointed in the same direction, which I like the idea of because it's faster and keeps the target lit. Tigerlight makes a point though that when the flashlight is dropped the BG will open their eyes allowing for the spray to have access to open eyes. However, if they've got their eyes closed they're not exactly a threat that requires spraying just yet. If they lunge for me, then I'd think I'd want the quick response of already having the spray pointed at them in addition to having the target lit and blinded by light. So anyone know of more options? Or am I going to have to get creative with pepper spray a flashlight and some duct tape? That may be the case, especially if I want high lumens and 2% OC. |
| I guess I just carry both the best flashlight I have ever found is a Surefire, I currently carry a back-up but I have had a defender and numerous other models but I prefer the back-up the best for size and light output. As far as pepper spray I carry Saber, I also think the Kimber pepper blast may be nice to carry. I would carry both as it is nice to have them separate. The reason I carry the pepper spray is because I am a fairly big guy an if I was in a non lethal situation that I could not talk my way out of or walk away from, the pepper spray would help diffuse the situation. I guess I would not want to get in a scuffle with some one while carrying if I can help it. But if they have a weapon it's firearm time. |

Haven't really seen too many different options for a device like that..................most of us are very content just carrying a good quality light and a separate can of OC spray.
I myself much prefer it that way. Wouldn't really want the two to be in one device. |

FOX Pepper Spray Review: www.redhotpepperspray.com this personally, i would opt for a proven, quality product––both the light and the spray lights: surefire; if not, fenix, streamlight, blackhawk, etc spray: FOX seperate systems might also be better simply b;/c you can "use" one and not have the other in play...just a thought |

FOX is already my go to brand. I have had others due to impulse buys though.
I don't know if they don't sell to retail stores, but I'm surprised it's not the only brand I see on MI shelves. It's MI legal and is considered the best by even states that allow above 2%. |
