Does anyone have any experience with the Perma Kote finish offered by Nighthawk Custom? It's pretty expensive, but that looks like just what I need for my SA Champion.

Lot of opinions over on M1911.org.  IMO, Permakote looks beautiful but is nothing special as far as its physical properties.  I own a Permakoted Nighthawk and it is only as good or bad as any other spray-on finish.  It's not magical or somehow more wear resistant than any other coating-type finish.  I've got finish wear at the front of the ejection port and NH told me that's just the way it goes.  I've got a new NH on order, and I chose the Diamond Black (Boron Carbide) finish, an industrial metal treatment and not a coating.  Unfortunately, NH doesn't offer the Diamond Black refinishing on anything but their own pistols.

What about Springfield's Armory Coat finish for your Springfield?  It's a pretty good finish and you'd be getting it applied by your original manufacturer.  My 2 cents is there's no reason to choose the NH finish over the Springfield finish.

SA's Armory Kote was my first choice actually. I'm going to have Novak sights installed on the gun anyway, so I figured I'd get the whole thing done at once. I read about Perma Kote this morning and I wondered if that would be a better choice than SA's Armory Kote.

These companies all just buy the paint from a third party and put their own SuperTactical™ name on it.

I'd wager it's GunKote or a competing product.
