What is the best way to polish a s/s revolver and what is the best product to get the shine? THANKS!

Mother's mag polish is a favorite, just apply by hand and be patient. Don't use a buffing wheel or any other power tool, you don't want to buff out rollmarks or mess up screw heads. Don't take the sideplate off a S&W, you'll round the edges if you do. Results are pretty fast just using elbow grease.

Check out the revolver photo thread, there are some pretty shiny ss revolvers there.

Yep.  That's how it's done.  Mothers make a SS gun sparkle.

Mothers Mag Polish is what I've used on both of my Colts I hand polished, and both came with the factory matte stainless finish. Like mentioned just use good old elbow grease and be patient. NO POWER TOOLS. I used old t-shirts, towels, and sweat socks on mine. Just constantly keep turning your cloth to a clean area, use minimal amounts of the polish, and keep polishing it until you're happy with the way it looks. When I get done polishing I used Renaissance Wax or Flitz Gun Wax. Both are NON-Abrasive waxes that keep the finish shiny and help reduce excess fingerprinting on the new shiny finish. Nothing will eliminate them but the wax helps make cleaning easier especially after shooting.

Yes, they are. That's an outstanding job.

I should have also mentioned, if you have laser markings on your gun (like newer S&W's), polishing will erase them pretty good. So know what you have before you go to town. Better yet, post some before and after pics.

I use Flitz paste on my stainless guns with excellent results, but I also don't go for the full-on mirror finish, just buff off the accumulated tiny scratches and such. Another vote for NO power tools - soft rags and elbow grease.

I just did this earlier this year. I dug out my report from the archives.
