Looking for a price on a Colt Diamondback in .38 Spcl. The gun has a blued finish with some surface rust and pitting on the cylinder. Locks up nice, barrel looks good, and it has rubber grips. Other than the minor pitting, the gun is in excellent shape.

Any idea on going price?

Thanks..

What is the barrel length?  Original grips? Box?

I've seen 2 & 1/2 inch D-backs go for $900 in 95% condition.  They are excellent guns.

I'm just guessing, in that condition, maybe $600-$800.

4" Barrel, no wood grips. It has the rubber grips attached but I am going to ask if the wood grips may be laying around somewhere.

It is a beautiful gun, I wish the previous owner had  wiped it down before he put it away.

I agree with the low end of the estimate above. Any surface rust and pitting drops the value of a revolver dramatically.

Here is about the worst of the pitting. Not sure if I should mess with it or just leave it alone.

How do you remove the cylinder on these colts? I am leery to mess with anything on them as I have heard they are a real pain to reassembly. I can work my way around breaking down a smith, but I would rather just remove to cylinder on this one for some cleaning.

I would leave it alone. The exception would be sending it back to Colt and have them work their magic on the finish.

They are easy as far as removing the cylinder. You remove the crane and cylinder  as one piece by removing the screw. Do NOT get the screws mixed up if you are removing more then one. The one that holds the crane in place is fitted as far as length goes.

You call that pitting?

Rub some oil on that thing with rough flannel!

Sending that to Colt along with about $300 means they would send it back to you looking better than it was brand new.

Very revolver!
