I can get a S&W 686 from my dealer for about $650. Is this a good price for a new 686?

That is what most retail shops sell a new gun for.

What model? The 7 shots go for a little more as does the ported model. My dealer has a brand new 6" 686 6-shot for only $509.95 which is a good deal. You may find a better price if you shop around.

Noooooo that is way to high for a new gun! I bought a new 4 inch 686 for $498.00 at Sportsmens Warehouse. I traded it for an older 686 with no lock.

A lot depends on what length of barrel, but I'd say that sounds a bit expensive.
