I have an issue with feeding rounds in my Kahr PM40. The gun jams frequently when "slingshotting" the slide as opposed to using the slide release (although that isn't always 100%). I am familiar with how to correctly slingshot the slide and I am not riding it forward. I have been working the action slowly and trying to see what's going on and I think I can see it. The magazines (both the 5 and 6 round mags that came with the gun) allow the tip of the top round to "dip" down. If the round isn't fed quickly enough, the front of the round dips enough to jam because it doesn't hit the feed ramp. I can see by looking at the loaded mags that at the front of the rounds, they are not touching. Seems like the follower is letting them dip too much inside the mag. So, is this normal for this pistol? Are there corrected mags and/or followers? |

If I try to not use the slide release I get inconsistent results with my PM40, but it works 100% as long as I use the slide release. I usually load one in the chamber, then top off the mag again, a gun with no round in the chamber, and limited capacity to begin with needs all the help it can get. |

Kahr recommends the slide release, if you wanna slingshot it you will likely have to download the mag 1 round, which leaves you with an empty chamber and 4-5 rds (depending on the mag). If you are just loading the chamber up, you can slingshot it, then take the mag out and push back the last round and top the mag off. |

My PM9 has the same "problem". I Don't think its a problem because the manual tells you to use the slide release, and it works fine that way. The way I look at it is: its a tiny gun made to be super compact and yet shoot a potent round. There will be trade offs, just like your raised Jeep with 36" tires may not ride great at 65 mph, your tiny Kahr will not behave like a 1911. Each gun has its trade-offs, Kahrs are light, and simple; but they require a break in period and require that the slide release be used to chamber a round - BFD |
