| So I ordered some gunner grips for my SA Loaded a month or so ago and finally got around to installing them, been quite busy lately. As I get to removing my last grip screw I find that the last grip screw has been stripped so bad that it feels like im using the wrong size wrench, but I'm not because I removed the first 3 screws without issue. Before anyone accuses me of being an idiot and stripping the screw myself, I will say that I didn't strip this screw one bit myself. Now to the problem, how the hell do I get this screw out? I finally have some free time this weekend and am itching to try these babies out. |
+1 on the Torx method on an unrelated note... on both of my kimbers the hex head grip screw on the top left side (directly under the plunger tube) were slightly stripped from the factory... no clue why... thought that was kind of weird... which screw head is stripped on yours? |
| I've had this happen numerous times. If the other ideas don't work for you and you have a Dremel with cutoff wheel, make the screw head into a slotted head and use a screwdriver to get it out. I can guarantee this works every time! You might as well order yourself a new set of screws if you haven't already. |

Yeah, CBR...it isn't real tough to do, and he may get whacked as much as the cost of a new pair of grips. I second the dremel slot trick. Just be careful you don't get the grip panel. By the way CBR, do you do your own oil changes on your CBR..?? I wound up saving a bundle doing my own, as well as on my Ninja. Takes about half hour if you have to remove the fairing. |
| Well I never cease to amaze myself. First of all upon further review it IS a torx screw, so I did some digging around and did find some torx bits around the house. Removed the screw to find it is stuck in the grip bushing. Looks like it was loctited from the factory as I see some residue on the underside of the grips which I assume is a glue of sorts. So the grip is removed, and the screw is not stripped, however it is stuck in the grip bushing, which is still in the grip. |
