I had just reinstalled the striker spring after cleaning my XD45. I tried to install the slide on the frame and the slide got stuck about 3/4 of the way back. Now it won't budge in either direction! It isn't far back enough to engage the disconnector lever. Here's a couple of (crappy) pics:

What's stuck? Do I have to send it to Springfield for repair?

I called Springfield Armory Customer Service today, and the nice lady there told me how to fix it. She said to put a crescent wrench between the end of the recoil spring guide rod and the frame, and to smack the crescent wrench with a hammer, so that the recoil spring rod is forced AWAY from the trigger. First hammer blow fixed the problem! I field tested the piece and now it is back in action.

WTF?

So you didn't put anything back wrong?

Gun was clean?

You needed a hammer to fix it?

When are you selling it to buy a _____?

It have been known that if you do not center the recoil spring/rod, that it will lock the gun up like you described.
