I placed an order for a Glock 9/40/357 CTAC RH holster from Midway 2 nights ago. Since I am local, I went and picked up the holster from Midway yesterday morning.
During break at work, I tried to adjust the clips on my new holster. Well, the screw on one of the belt clip would not turn no matter how hard I tried. I was afraid I would break something if I tried harder. The steel tangs on the back of the leather piece even turned along with the screw. I tried to push the rubber buffer trying to release some tension on the screw .... no dice. So I called CompTac trying to find out if this is normal. I use an MTAC daily and I have an older CTAC for my XD. So I am familiar with the adjustments etc. The Customer Service from CompTac said that I should return the holster to Midway for an exchange. Midway will return the bad holster to CompTac. The frozen screw is definitely not normal. I called Midway and arranged for the exchange for the same holster model (I need one). I went to Midway to return the defective holster. 4 hours later I was back to pick up the replacement. The replacement holster does not have any problem with the screws. I was able to adjust the carry position to my liking. However .... when I inserted my Glock 19 into the holster .... I could not get that positive audible "CLICK" that I always get with my older CTAC holster I have for my XD45. The CLICK sound is made when the front side of the trigger guard completely clears the two dimples on the holster interior around the trigger guard. I saw the two dimples on my new CTAC holster, but the front side of my Glock 19 trigger guard just could not clear them. I tried using my G17 and G26, same results. Then I compared the new Glock CTAC holster with my older XD CTAC and observe how the trigger guard gets over the dimples. It is clear to me now that the new Glock CTAC holster does not have enough room beyond the dimples for the trigger guard to clear the dimples, so the gun trigger guard hits parts of the kydex already before it clears the dimples. Because of this the dimples cannot have a positive retention on the pistol trigger guard. The front side of trigger guard is being squeezed between the hump of the dimple and the flat part of the holster beyond the trigger guard. This makes drawing very difficult, and reholstering becomes uncertain since I cannot tell if my pistol has enough retention to stay in the holster (since there is no audible CLICK). I tried to adjust the two screws that hold the rear leather piece to see if I can make the holster works better. No dice. If I tighten the screw more, the pistol becomes much more difficult to draw. If I loosen it more, there is less retention and still no positive CLICK when reholstering. For God Sake, even my MTAC with one side of Kydex gives me more positive CLICK when the dimple engages the trigger guard. I sent an email to CompTac about this and ask what I should do. I can try to exchange it (again) with Midway, but they are out of stock till late January 2010. Also, there is no telling if the replacement is trouble-free. Any problem with recent CTAC holsters? I am very disappointed having to deal with two defective holsters in one day. You would think for the price they charge, they would spend testing their products before they ship them out. How is CompTac's customer service? |
