I recently bought some 9mm WinClean 147 gr. ammo because it was on sale. I fired about 20 rounds of it in my new springfield and then the slide would not fully close, even without a round in the gun. After pulling the slide back and releasing it several times it still would return foward the last 1/4". After i got it home and took it apart i did see 2 small flakes of what apear to be pieces of the winclean jacket. The jacket material is much softer than any other bullets and is brass instead of copper i believe. I can only assume the pieces of jacket were keeping the gun from closing. Anybody had a similar problem with winclean ammo? I have previously fired about 200 rounds of WWB bulk ammo through this gun with no problems. The gun is cleaned every 100 rounds or so. |
I have fired about 50 rounds of Winclean 45ACP with no problems. Can't tell you more than that. |

Take this for what it is worth. I shoot at the FBI indoor ranges in Quantico Va. frequently. They have lots and lots of Win clean ammo. NONE of it is shot out of ANY 1911 pistol, it is reserved only for the few Glock 21's and Sig 220's that show up once in a while. The rumor is that there have been many many problems with the winchester clean ammo in the custom .45's (mostly Springfield and Para's) used over at the academy. NO-ONE including the HRT is allowed to use ANY Win-clean ammo in ANY 1911. |
