I have a PDA/LDA that is, to my mind, too selective on ammunition.  My normal carry load is Rem 115gr HP, +P (R9MM3). It works in all six of my other 9mm (Glocks, SIGs, Spr XD, etc), but it fails to fire with unfortunate regularity in the Para.  Factory says to use non +P.  I have been carrying as LEO, CHL, CCW since 1962 and now manage a gun shop and am second line gunsmith, so I do know a bit about handgun reliability.  What I don't know enough about are Para pistols.  I have settled on Fed P9HS1, which work very well, but I like to keep with one brand of ammo and the Remington works very well.

Anyone else have issues with PDA/LDA FTF on certain brands of ammo?

Also, I carry two spare mags under my cover shirt and they look like they are partially blued (turning dark) where they contact my skin.  Anyone else have their mags turn color?  It does come off with some Flitz polish.

Thanks

I carry an LDA and it never malfs.  Mine's a .45.  I have been surprised that the two-tier LDA hammer system drops with enough energy to fire, but it's never done anything bad.

I assume you've tried different lot numbers, etc. in yours?

As far as your magazines go, I have nasty corrosive skin, but haven't seen that reaction.  Mine ride against a tshirt though.

My wife has a PDA in 9mm for her CCW. It hasnt been shot too much, approx 500 rounds IIRC. I've tried Winchester Ranger loads, with no issue, and shot 8 rounds of Corbon 115 gr. Got several FTF out of the Corbon's. Primer's were lightly dimpled, but no bang. These same rounds worked just fine out of a Glock 19 immediately afterwards. One of the employees at the indoor range I was at advised he had seen the same thing happen with another Para LDA shooting another type of round, (Cant remember which one it was at the moment...gold colored self defense hollowpoints...brain farting sorry). It was his hypothethis that the gun had difficulty with "tough" primers due to the LDA trigger system.

There is logic to that, if one understands how the LDA hammer works, but I'm inclined to think the margin of safety built into that design should account for variable primer harndess and height.  Could there be a cleaning issue?  That LDA system is kinda voodooish, with lotsa small parts we wouldn't otherwise think to flush and lube.

I don't have the LDA/PDA but my brother does. I am looking for a good used one right now. I have a Kimber and a friend has the Tarurus .45. We bought a batch of crap reloads from a friend that would not cycle in our guns. We tried them in the Para and everyone fed without issue. I believe it is due to the tilting/ramped barrel. For this reason alone I will buy one. I'm sorry about your issue, but it seems that you are alone in this situation.

Been carrying a P14/45 LDA SS on duty for about 8 years now. Have thousands of rounds thru it. Been to multiple instructor schools, SWAT schools and carried daily.  The only issue I've had is that it dosent like light hot rounds. I carry 230 gr Rangers and carry on.
