I have been around guns all my life but I just bought my first Glock.  I know, what took me so long.  Anyways, I want to make sure I am doing things right.  What is the correct way to clean it?  Field strip it and clean it out or swab the barrel and wipe it down?  I was just worried about getting chemicals on it.  What do you guys do to take care of yours?

Cleaning rod and brush that came with it. CLP, old toothbrush, patch's,clean rag, and a few q-tips is what I use.

Fine so far.....

I broke it down as much as you possibly could.  I am talking trigger assembly and everything (I am a novice with guns and figured it out and put it back no problem, I was worried though).  Not only was it really fun but I cleaned out a lot of dirt from the past owner.  Oiled that baby up and it looks gorgeous.

Also, there are disassembly/assembly videos on youtube if you need a reference.

Oh, and I use hoppes gun solvent and hoppes gun oil on all my guns.
