Finally purchased my 1911. I have had plans since last year to pick one up, 2011 seemed like the right year to finally join the club. :D
I originally wanted a SA Range Officer but I handled one and the sights just didn't fit me. Handled a 'Loaded Champion' and fell in love. Originally had my heart set on the OD green with black slide but ended up with a Stainless flavor. It was just too pretty to not buy. lol Anyway, welcome me to the club. I already managed to put a slight scratch on the frame and slide while cleaning out the excessive oiling from springfield. Not too bad, figure i can buff it out at some point, if not, oh well it adds character! |

Here is a quick picture, fresh from teh box. http://i1097.photobucket.com/albums/g344/JMcDowell83/M1911.jpg I picked up 3 different flavors of ammo to try out. Federal 230gr FMJ Winchester 185gr FMJ Winchester 230gr JHP From what ive read I shouldn't feed it a steady diet of +P and also that 1911's tend to like FMJ's best. Kinda wondering how the JHP's will feed. Liking the night sights on it, pretty cool in my dark hallway, much better than the sights on the Range Officer in my opinion. Trying to find some good maintenance tips for the pistol. Looking for proper oiling locations, etc. Sounds like they like to be run a bit wet. |

Went to the range yesterday, fired off nearly 150rds (kept two magazines full of the 230HP) without a single issue. Pretty fun for sure. Seemed to be hitting a bit high and to the left. Grouped pretty good. Trigger is much heavier than i was hoping for. Might see if it 'breaks in' a bit or just look into getting the lbs dropped with a mod or two. I see some people recommend the main spring to help out.

Springfields are my favorite non custom 1911's as I believe they offer the best value for the price. Their warranty is legendary. Your factory sights shoud be set by the factory for 25 yards where aim will be right at the point of impact..... IF I remember correctly. Anything at closer range will yeild a slightly higher impact point. That is a nice piece that I would be proud to own. As to your statement in a previous post about 1911's liking FMJ's the best........ your Springfield should handle almost any quality HP round. Be sure to test the ammo you choose to carry. It looks like that is what you did. A further not to the trigger, have the poundage tested either by you with a scale or a professional. If the trigger poundage is out of range of what Springfield advertises, then contact Springfields customer service. They will send you a call tag and pay shipping on their dime both ways. They will get the poundage into a more acceptable range. Enjoy the pistol and post some more pics with your next range report. |
