Personally, I would probably only shoot .38 in it. But thats because its always been kind of a grail gun to me (the kind I know I will most likely never get to own THose things are like unicorns anymore. I have never even seen one in person. |

The Python frame and cylinder are extremely strong, so there's no reason not to shoot Magnum ammo through it.
That's what it was made for. It's not a S&W "K" frame that was made for limited use with Magnum loads. If accuracy is your thing, shoot 148 grain wadcutter Mid Range Target loads. |
| I probably wouldn't shoot a huge amount of heavy 357 loads through it, but shooting full powered 357 ammo through it once in a while shouldn't hurt it. Since you want to "keep it as nice as possible" (and I would too), I doubt you'll be shooting it thousands and thousands of rounds anyway. |
I made the mistake of going to Guns America last night. Damn, are they proud of their Pythons! Listings went from$2,000 to $9,000!
My first pistol was a NIB 6" Python in 1981. Just wish that damn bi+€& of an ex-wife hadn't gotten her grubby paws on it and sold it!! |
