Hey guys, I thought about posting in the Colt forum but I figured you guys would know more over here.  Here's the story:

I recently came into possession of a wonderful blue Colt Python for the paltry sum of $700.  An old friend ran into some hard times and had to sell most of his pretty nice collection (special serial numbered guns and what not) and I'd had an eye for the Python since before I shot his, when I played the first Resident Evil in my younger days.  Anyway, this beautiful weapon has been slightly problematic since I got it.  It had a sticky trigger but after a good lube with CLP it seemed to be working a lot better.

Until the cylinder release broke.  Now its hard to open it up and I have to hold it back all the way to close it.  Needless to say this is not the state I want this fine weapon in.  From what I hear these weapons have been put together with watchlike precision and aren't something like a 1911 that I can do a lot of work on.

I live in the north central Florida area but there aren't any good smiths up here that I'd really trust with this beauty.  I was just wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of someone in or out of state who'd be able to work on such a weapon.  Finding parts has been troublesome too.  I lucked into a new mainsping but haven't found much else.

For the too long, didn't read crowd; Python cylinder release is messed up, need gun smith.  In the absence of pictures, its a 2-1/2" barrel, blue, and sexy.

Colt made some shitty Pythons during their lean profit years. Could be this one is one of them, you don't say when it was made.

Quite honestly, if it were my gun, I'd send it directly back to Colt & have them do it in their Custom Shop. No, it won't be cheap, but you WILL have the factory backing of warranty of their work.

My .o2

Good luck!

I agree with this. Send it to Colt and see what they can do for you.

I concur, send it back to Colts. You may just be surprised at what the repair costs you. I sent in a 2nd Generation SAA to have it case hardened and blued (it was nasty). As I recall they charged me less than $200 and also replaced some worn parts for free! Oh and the work that was done was superb!

Well, I'm going to talk to Colt about it.  It doesn't seem like it's shoddy or anything, it just seems like something wore down.  How would I go about telling when this puppy was made?  As far as what I know about Colt revolvers are pretty close to the bottom of the list.  It just has a nice trigger, its pretty accurate, the ladies seem to like it so I'd hate to have to get rid of it.

When you speak to Colt give them the serial number and they will give you the production date. They only charge if you want a paper document.
