Yesterday I got an used USP 9 compact.  It is my 3rd HK pistol - I had a USP 40 several years ago and I currently have a P30, which is my carry gun.

I know that the Compact has the plastic buffer around the recoil spring just like the P30 and that it moves free around it. However when I hold the compact up or down, I can hear the buffer rattling up and down and I only noticed it after I got home from the gun store. This does not happen on my P30.  I also noticed that the slide release comes off from the frame very easily (during field strip procedure), almost like if it is kind of loose or there is something missing. Is there supposed to be a spring or something on the frame around the hole where the slide release is inserted?  Does anybody have a picture of the frame of an USP compact where you insert the slide release?

I have a USP 45 compact that I got NIB. It does the same thing that yours does. I have had 0 problems with mine and carry it regularly. I think you are good to go.

Thanks for the answer. Can you tell me if there is any kind of spring or detent around the frame where the slide stop goes in? Mine feels kind of loose and I notice that there is like a groove in the frame, near the hole where the slide stop goes in, which I don't know if it is like that or if there was supposed to be a spring in there.

No spring on the slide stop.

+1

My .45 Compact does it as well. My slide release isn't as loose as you describe yours though. Unlikely, but it could be something along the lines of a hair too small slide stop? Weirder things have happened. Numerich sells USP parts now, IIRC. Might try a new one for giggles?

Took the gun to the range this weekend, and it is working great. I ordered another slide stop just in case... One thing that I noticed is that all the ejected shells had a distinct mark around the case, just like if they were very sutle bottlenecks rounds.  Ammo was factory pmc which I use all the time for practice.  I looked inside the chamber and noticed a ring shaped mark inside. The barrel looks perfect and it seems that was not fired a lot. Has anyone experienced the same thing before?

That is strange - almost like the chamber was not cut properly.

I just looked down the chamber of my p30 and it has the same kind of ring shaped mark, however the ejected cases from the p30 seems to be normal.

That is unusual. If you can get a pic of it and post it here. Chamber should not have any grooves or rings. Sould be smooth. Also PMC ammo IMOP sucks and has caused many problems with other guns fyi.

I think PMC is underpowered if you ask me, but I don't reload and that's what they normally have in the range.  Call me dumb, but I never figured out how to post pictures here... lol...

I shot PMC for years before they went out of business & never had the first issue with them. They make/made fine ammo at an affordable price, IMO.

Feel free to send me all PMC ammo anyone doesn't want.....................

I asked the same question about my new USP9c.

The response was "Shoot it more."

My understanding is that it stops rattling over time. Dont ask me why, but that is the official answer I got.
