Just an idle curiosity on my part, but I had a question.
In several movies and such, although the only one I can specifically remember right now is Split Second with Rutger Hauer, I've seen very large revolvers with a large rectangular plate hanging below the barrel. A friend of mine told me it was called a speed plate, and was for recoil management. I spent a fair amount of time on google trying to look this up and see if these things were real and/or used at all, but can't seem to find anything about them. Googling barrel weight just got me pictures of fancy barrel shrouds, but nothing like what I saw. Was just wondering if anyone had ever seen/heard of one and if they really existed outside of the movies. |

Not exactly sure what you are refering to (not familar with the movie) but some of the go fast gamers had something that sounds similar to what you are describeing that they would press against the barricade of a speed shooting course with the hopes it would speed up their strings.
These would be found on the highly specialized guns purpose made for Bianchi cup and such events Needless to say if you didn't have a baricade or something this item was just another thing to get in the way. It is somewhat counter intuitive but with a skilled shooter and a gun with properly tuned action and heavy barrel fireing medium loads the double action revolver is every bit as fast as the semi |
