Hi guys just a quick question. For a .45 I am thinking about getting a 97b or 97bd however it doesn't have an accessory rail by default which is a big deal as I like to use lights.

I see on their website there are picatinny rail kits. I know this is a very newb question, but do those kits require a gunsmith to do manual drill work with the gun, or is it something I can do? I don't mind either way I just want to have the facts.

Thanks guys!

I can't find the rail on their site.

However, in almost all cases a rail will require precision drilling and tapping.
This is not something you want to botch up.

The problem comes in getting a pistolsmith to do they job who won't botch it up.
That's why the smart move is to have a good custom shop do it.
There's several custom shops listed on their site who can do it right.

You'd think that drilling and tapping a couple of holes is a core gunsmith skill that would be difficult to screw up but I've seen some of these core skill simple jobs that local "gunsmiths" have managed to botch.
I'd rather spend the money and time having it done by a top shop then trying to figure out what I was going to do with a screwed up gun.
