Ok so my XD45 compact came in today from Buds. I have been molesting the pistol for about a half hour now. It is a really cool pistol and I am pleased as can be. I do have a couple questions. 1). The mag release seems really stiff. Will this work itself out with more use? and 2). I also picked up some break free and I have never used it before. Is it safe to use on polymer frames?

Yes the mag release will smooth out with use. As long as you dont soak the frame with CLP for days, which I dont see you doing you will be fine. I use Hoppes and it dosen't hurt at all.

ETA= Congrats on your new purchase.

thanks. After more molesting, I figured out the mag release is only stiff when the mag is full, so I know it will smooth out over time. I do really like this gun. Glad I got it and cant wait to run some through it.

I've gotten into the habit of slapping the bottom of the mag while pressing the mag release; this helps a lot, especially with tac reloads.

I got my XD-45c about two years ago and it has about 1200 rounds of WWB FMJ down the pipe.

I'm still doing a lot of dry firing and mag insert/release cycles as it still isn't broken in enough to me, but has gotten much better. I probably have 10k+ dry fires on it and the trigger is pretty smooth though. Fully loaded hi-cap mags lock in OK, but the 10rd compact mags when fully loaded are a little more difficult on a closed slide. I don't think it's gonna get any better and I can live with it. It's not a problem with the slide locked back though.

Eveerything tends to loosen up on guns after a little use.  The stiff mag release is normal.  CLP is just fine for your XD.  It's never hurt either of mine.  Neither has Hoppe's or any other gun cleaner.

The mag release will always be a little stiff on a full mag. Pushing on the mag as you hit the release will make it easier.
