I need some info on the following revolvers.  Maybe someone can help me out.

The first is a S&W 442 in Satin Nickel.

The second I believe is an early S&W 640 without the shroud for the ejector rod.

Both are older versions with no internal lock and the flat latch, but what is each chambered/rated for? Is the 442 rated for .38+p of just .38 spl.? Is the 640 rated for .38+p and .357?

Look at the barrel, if it doesn't say +P then its not rated for it.  Same for the 640, if it says .357 you're good to go.

S&W has said that ANY dash model J-frame is rated for +P ammo. IOW, a 442-1, 640-2, etc. etc.

Having said that, I'm sure you know that a J-frame will shoot its self loose with +P sooner rather than later. Too nice a gun to do that with, IMO.

Good luck!
