There are two handguns that I want to own, a Colt Anaconda, and a Colt 1911 (hopefully from WWII).
I like collecting and shooting old guns, I have a mauser and am working on getting a M1 Garand, now I am looking into getting a WWII era 1911. I really don't know anything about these guns, so I don't know what to look for in these guns; nor do I know the difference between the 1911 and the 1911M1, so help on the differences would be good as well. Thanks |

Unless you are willing to do some serious homework and learn all you can about the Colt 1911A1 of WWII, I would skip getting one of them. Reason is, I see to many people getting hosed buying one. Typically they pay way to much for a beat up relic, a mixmaster passed off as the real-deal or a bubaized calamity waiting for a sucker.
Colt did come out a few years ago with a replica of the WWII 1911A1 and you can find them for sale on the auction sites occasionally. They were a limited edition production. Currently, Colt is making one that is a copy of the 1911 of 1918 called the Black Army. That is another good one to get. It is not a limited edition either. You could probably find either of these for about 1/2 the price of an actual Colt from WWII. I do wish you luck in this. The 1911 platform is a great handgun! |

I am more inclined towards the 1911A1 version simply for the appearance. I like the parkerized finish actually and the WWII era interests me more than WWI history.
Many people find the 1911 to be a bit harder on the hand since it has a small grip safety and the long hammer bites them. This is not an issue for me though. If you could handle both or even better, fire one of each, that would be the best way for you to determine which would be best for you. |

Okay, so which would you recommend, the M1911 or the M1911a1? The A1 model is more refined, IMO. Might I suggest you peep at the Springfield Armory mil-spec line? They're parkerized 1911's, but do come with 3-dot sights instead of those gawd-awful military sights. Hit the web sites & peruse the pics, see what jumps out & grabs your attention. Good luck! |
