I was wondering if anyone has a lasermax for their Glock? If so how do you like it and have you tried any other laser systems?

First and foremost I'll say you should always be proficient with the iron sites atop your weapon.  When all else fails go to them, they never fail.  I also believe you should train and shoot as much as you can afford to.  Dry fire when you cannot afford the ammo.  Know your weapons.

That said I like the Lasermax lasers.  When you already practice good trigger discipline the on/off switch is in the perfect place on the frame.  If you ever have to engage someone with a pistol you'll probably be focusing on the target, instead of your front sight.  Having a brilliant pulsing dot in your target probably decreases the odds of missing (or hitting an unintended target).

They're great in low light conditions and simple to use.  If the red dot is on your target, you're going to hit it.  Their cost is the biggest drawback.  I will say the Lasermax is one of those things I considered an investment (much like my Eotech, Acog, and other costly accessories).  I have had a Lasermax in my Glock 22 for at least 4 years now.  I NEVER remove it when I shoot at the range, and I've never had any trouble with it.  The unit in my G 27 is less than 2 years old, but has seen a lot of shooting.  The second unit has held up very well.

I like that you don't need any special holsters to accommodate external parts.  If you can get past the cost, they'll probably be a good tool to have on your weapon when the time comes.

This is an old pic that I've posted here before.  I have since don grip modifications to both of these weapons, but the Lasermax are going strong.

I've had one in my glock 19 for something like almost 10 years.  Only changed batteries once, but I can tell it is getting close again.  Has always worked correctly, never failed.  Always perfectly on target.

When I get my next Glock soon (G30), I will also be getting a Lasermax for it.

I have tried the Crimson Trace system on my G19 and can't recommend it.  The laser bulb sticks up too high, and partially blocks the slide, making it difficult to rack the slide without shifting your fingers.  Something I don't think many people will be wanting to do in a life or death situation.

These pictures show what I am talking about.

This is my normal, racking the slide, finger position.  Although it looks like it, my fingers are not touching the frame, but you can see they cover all of the slide.

When I try to grip the slide normally, it is impossible with the CT installed.  My index finger has decent, although not usual placement, but the next two fingers would clearly prevent me from racking the slide all the way.

I could train myself to use a halfass and unnatural finger grip, but who is going to do that in the pressure cooker?

Thanks H53expert.  I have some fellow LEO's that have the grip and they have been talking it up.  I am not saying that it isn't great, but that lasermax would be a better fit.  The guys like the laser not as your primary sight but more for low light level shooting.

I forgot to add.  I don't trust the Lasermax because it involves changing actual functioning parts of the Glock.  I have heard way too many stories of their recoil springs causing problems in many a Glock.

I disagree with HS3EXPERT, however i will say that he is accustomed to his technieques and he would probably be better off sticking with what he knows. I have a Crimnson Trace on my G19 and love the thing. I did put some rubber strips of grip tape in the groves of the serrations to aid in grip, and it has been working fine for over a year. Some people complain of no on/off switch too, however i found that for right handed people, you can use your index finger to block the lazer if you dont want it down range. I believe that any self defence pistol should have all available options accessable. There are stories of lazers being the savior in deadly encounters. In an old issue of American Rifleman a guy was beat over the head with a pipe and robbed. he was knocked out cold while the robber went through his car. when he was "waiking" up the robber saw him moving and grabbed the pipe to "finish him off". The guy couldnt see streight and was very bloody, but managed to draw his gun and fix the lazer on the robber and shot him. He accreadited the lazer for saving his life. So if you are getting the gun for protection at least get one of them and some good night sights

is the lasermax dead on? or can you adjust the targeting of the dot like on the crimson trace? also what parts need to be changed for the lasermax? is it a no brainer or does someone at a gun store need to do it?

It's set from the factory and has no adjustment. I thought mine was "off" cause I was never able to put the bullet hole where the dot was. After awhile of me concentrating on my trigger pull I'm convinced that it was me that was off and not the laser. The act of firing the gun w/o using sights takes a bit of getting use to.

I've got a LM in my G30 and have had no function problems with the gun while it's installed.

My 1st LM did break however. One day it just stopped working. I thought it was the batteries but new ones didn't help. Sent it back to LM and they sent me a new on no charge. I think it got fried when I went to Auto zone and bought a new battery for my truck. I was carrying at the time and carried the battery right next my gun. I think that's what did it in.

The LM is a bit dim though and you can't use it at an outdoor range unless it's an overcast day. But in low light it works fine.

I have never had any problems with my 2 LMs and have never heard the LM having any bad impact on the function of a weapon.  The whole unit is a 1 piece drop in replacement for the recoil spring.  Unless the springs break, which is possible but unlikely, I fail to see how it could cause any trouble.  You can't eliminate someone installing the unit incorrectly or trying to tinker with it and screwing something up.

Please share one or two of this book of stories with us.  I'm also interested in where you're hearing them.

I have replaced a number of the round wound springs in the LM. Even After 5-600rds they start to deform. I will have tables at the local gun show in about 3 weeks and one or two almost always shows up with malfunction problems.

How many rounds do these lasermax units have put to them when they begin to fail?  Any idea?

Obviously I'm curious b/c I keep my LM in my "go-to" weapons all the time.  I don't use them a lot but I do leave them in when I shoot.  I inspect the units every time I clean my weapons, so what should I be looking for in terms of wear and tear?

My friends duty pistol(G22) has a LM on it and he probably has a few thousand rounds on it, with out a problem.

I have a lasermax in my g19 and it is excellent I always hit a little off of where the laser points. The only problem that mine has is the cap doesnt hold on very tight as it should. I called lasermax right after I got it and always got the same story that the guy I needed to talk to was out. I have had it for a year and a half now and other than the initial problem with the cap I have had no other trouble. I let a CCW instructor use it at about 5-6yds he hit within .5 in of where he aimed. My frieind got one for his g19 at the same time that I did and it has gotten very dim even with new batteries. I would say the dot is less than 1/3 the brightness of mine. My dad has an older one in his g22 that has been excelent.
These are great but their customer service is terrible.
