Hello guys, Just was a little curious on what your thoughts were on the new Ruger MK III 22 LR pistols. The reason I ask is because I was thinking of picking up another, but upon closer inspection, I noticed that all the new MK III pistols have a loaded chamber indicator, and I hate it. So what are your thoughts on this, Is this new loaded chamber indicater all that. It looks like trouble to me.

I have a Mark III Hunter and it is great.  The LCI and the magazine safety disconnect doesn't bother me one bit but I know others think otherwise.  Of course some owners take the LCI out and mod the pistol so that the magazine safety disconnect is made inoperable but to me it is more trouble that it's worth.  If you can find a Ruger Mark II that would be better if you don't like the lawyer features.  But if you can look past these features I feel the Mark III is a great and accurate dedicated .22lr pistol.  Good luck.

BTW, I just found a Mark II slab side new in box the I am thinking of acquiring for my collection.  It would be nice to have both worlds.

I am on the market for a Mark III as well. And like you I was put off by the chamber indicator and the magazine safety. But I have since discovered you can disable the magazine safety, and I'm thinking I can live with the chamber indicator. So i'm going to get one anyway. Now if only my local range had one in stock. Apparently Ruger is a bit backed up on productions of the Mark III.

I'd like to mirror mauiblue's comments. There are many who dislike these new features, but my MkIII 22/45 has been a terrific pistol.

I have one MK II and two MK IIIs. Each has features I don't like, but minor mods can make them acceptable. I don't like the mag release of the MK II, so I put on a bigger mag release. The MK III has the mag disconnect. I put in a VQ MK II hammer and sear and took care of the trigger and the mag safety. I felt the mag release of the MK III was too short, so I drilled and tapped the mag release and installed a 1911 mag release extension. I don't care one way or the other about the LCI and trigger lock.

I have a MKIII and don't see any problems with it at all other than it is a bit picky with ammo.

The LRI is easy to remove,  its held in by one pin.  It bothered me mostly because it collects grime and is hard to clean.

My wife has one that she loves. It's a target range gun so I we don't care about a LCI or mag disconnect. Great gun that will last for years, but it's a bitch to disassemble to clean.
