So I have a pretty simple question.  I live in lubbock texas and went to dallas texas for vacation for 2 weeks.  However, I forgot one of my pistols back in lubbock.  If I wanted to have my brother ship me my pistol, would I need to go through an FFL?  I understand all that about when buying a gun you have to go through an FFL, but since I own this gun, do I need an FFL?  Thanks.

It's your gun.  You can have him ship it to you using UPS or FedEx.  Their policy requires that you notify them it is a firearm so they can make you send it overnight and charge you about $50, but that is not federal law.  They may also require that it goes to an FFL, but that also is not federal law.  Just their policy.

Personally, since you have other guns, I would just have him hold it until you got a chance to go back and pick it up. It obviously wasn't that important since you forgot it in the first place.

Within state limits, even if going to a buyer, it doesn't need to go through an FFL. That's only for (drumroll please) Interstate Commerce...hence the fed. law on it.

Unless your state has a reg otherwise (Texas doesn't appear to), mailing a handgun within the state no matter the reason is 100% legal. That said, USPS won't let you do it...so use a contract carrier.
