So I "might" have run a few "hot" rounds through my RIA 1911 and now the recoil buffer is. well. broken. It got hammered good and even split. So, should I replace it? I have had a few other 1911s and none of them had a buffer and they did fine.
What is the hive opinion??

If you're going to hypothetically continue to shoot hot loads, get another buffer.  In fact, consider doubling up on buffers.

Otherwise don't bother.

recoil buffers are a replaceable item, and a wallet thinner.

I'd say anything approaching +p.

Roughly.  I'd want one installed if you routinely exceed 1000 fps.

Are we talking 1000fps with a 230gr bullet?
I can't say I would ever want to try that myself. The "hot loads" I was talking about were around 950fps with a 225gr TC bullet.
I think I will forget about putting a new buffer in and just watch what I load up from now on.

Buff shock, small piece of some sort of polymer.
