| I'm picking up a P229r and a G19 and want to get a flashlight for them that will fit on the rail. The brighter the better but I want something that is reliable and durable. What should I get? |

I think that you'd be very satisfied with a Streamlight TLR-1.
I've had a TLR-2 (combo light & laser) on my 1911 and found it to be very user friendly, handy and durable. Will the TLR-1 fit the rails on both a Sig and Glock? Any advantage to the TLR-1s? Price will be your biggest advantage given the fact that you can find them for around $80 along with a plethora of responses about the durability and reliability. It should fit any standard rail.. |

Couldn't have said it better myself. |

Insight Procyon/WX150 or the Surefire X300. I despise the TLRs rail mounting method. What don't you like about it? I'm torn between the two. The wallet tells me to get the Insight or the Streamlight, but my brain tells me to save another $100 and get the surefire. I know that the SF comes on and off easily, which is a plus. How does the insight mount? Screw-on only like the SL? |

The Streamlight clamp is more secure in my opinion. |

I ordered the TLR-1 this morning from Manventureoutpost.com for $92.76 shipped. Now I just need to wait for my pistol permit to be approved. You won't be disappointed. Hope that permit comes through quickly. Me too. So far it's been 2.5 months since I submitted it. Hopefully only another 6 weeks max, that's a best case scenario. |

Any light that requires a tool to mount or remove is a no go as far as I am concerned. |

Any light that requires a tool to mount or remove is a no go as far as I am concerned. You can use a coin, back of a knife, or you fingers if you really try to remove a TLR-1. The Insight clamp is some cheesy piece of plastic with tiny allen head screws holding it in. I have a wide variety of handguns (CZ, Beretta, Springfield Armory) and the rails aren't all exactly the same width. That meant I had to mess around with a hex key trying to adjust the clamp position if I wanted to change guns. All so you can remove it without a tool ![]() |

Quoted: Thats why you have a light for each gun...not a hard concept. Even when adjusted to fit a particular pistol it wouldn't stay as tight as the TLR-1. I don't get the love affair with the supposed quick detach advantage of the Insight. If I have a light on a pistol I can't imagine a situation where I would need to remove it quickly (like a quick detach optic where it could obstruct the sights). |
You make it sound like the Streamlight requires three different wrenches, a bottle of penetrating oil, a jar of elbow grease, and a half hour on the workbench to remove from the pistol it's mounted to. Not so. You use your thumb and index finger to back out the screw, and then you push it in, and pop! Off it goes. It takes all of four seconds. You CAN tighten down the screw to the point where you need a tool to unscrew it, but I've always just done mine finger-tight, and I've never had a problem in 1000+ rounds.

Quoted: Cant imagine a situation? Do your batteries never go dead? I have had to remove mine several times in the process of a building search, field search, or call out to replace batteries. You aren't going to do that under fire, even if it is a tool free change. You can't really change the batteries one handed while still providing cover with your pistol, so the extra 10 seconds to unsrew the light are a moot point. Also, on all the pistol lights I used it was harder to pop open the battery cover than unscrewing the clamp on a TLR-1. The extra few seconds to unscrew the light are worth the extra security provided by a metal screw clamp IMHO. |

Quoted: And this is why, of three companies producing weapon lights, only one uses this method? Surefire uses a very similar system to the TLR on the X400 light/laser combo. Hmm, that is also the top of the line model for the X series, wonder what that tells you about that clamp |
