I need a good hideout pistol as a primary for when I need something that has to be pretty well concealed with shorts and a t-shirt and is light and compact.

I've got a Kahr PM9, which is nice for when I really really can't have anything, but I don't consider it an excellent choice as a primary and I'm looking for something "better" in terms of either more capacity or a better caliber.

I've been considering the G26.  I was kind of looking at the new Colt CCW or maybe a tiny Kimber?  Maybe a little revolver?

What say you?

If you want to increase caliber and capacity while keeping the gun small your best bet is probably the Glock 27 or the new S&W M&P40 Compact.

If you are wanting something different than your Kahr I would stay away from a revolver which holds the same amount of rounds as your pm9.  I second the Glock 27 but I also just bought a 26 over the weekend, the 40 cal was too much for the wife.

I like the G26.  A 3in 1911 like a Colt or Kimber hides away nicely also.  IMO it depends where you will keep it.  The G26 is smaller but the 1911 is thinner.  Where you are going to conceal it and your build will factor in on which would be best.

One of the things I do like about the 26 is that I can use my G19 mags interchangeably.  I also plan on getting a G17 some day as well, so it would be nice to have the whole family.

You're right, the .40 would be better to some extent but I don't want to invest in another caliber.  For pistols, it's .45, 9mm, and now 10mm.  I guess I could get the tiny 10mm, but I think the G26 is smaller, right?

Yeah, I agree -- the revolver seems like a real dumb idea when I think about it more.  Less capacity and a bit harder to conceal....

Glock 26, hands down the best small CCW pistol I've found in 28 years of daily carry.  It's rugged, reliable, accurate and follow up shots are very fast.  I had a G27, but the extra snap of the .40's recoil slowed the follow up shots down too much, and out of that length barrel I'm not convinced the .40 is enough better that it's worth losing the ability to bring it back on target faster.

Put night sights on it and Concealable Control floorplates on your 10 round mags and carry 17 round mags as spares.  Get a good holster and you've got a combination that's hard to beat.

I ended up with a Taurus PT111 over a glock 26 because its smaller and it fit me better.

13 round capacity, and I could still get three FULL fingers on the grip.

Its about 1/2" shorter than a G26 IIRC.

CZ2075 Rami.  Condition 1 or Condition 2 carry.  Will take full size CZ75 mags.  Available in 9mm or .40sw.  And much more comfortable than a Glock.

SGB -- that is definitely a nice looking gun, and it's a 1911, which is a bonus.  But I don't think it gets me anything that my PM9 doesn't currently do.  It's still a single-stack 9mm.  I'm guessing that it probably is larger and weighs more too.

So that's why it's out in my book.  But a real small .45 1911 might be nice.

J Frame.  Mine is a 340PD and with the new small Crimson Trace grips on it I consider it to be the Holy Grail of backup guns.

If it has to be light, then I suggest a scandium/lightweight DAO 5-shot .357 (feel free to use .38+P)

I find most subs too "flimsy" to trust as a primary, and the profile of a baby BLOCK is way too chunky for CCW IMO.

Are you comfortable with a .380? If so, might want to go the Kel-Tec route and pick up a P3AT. And there's also the new PF-9 but it's still pretty new so expect a few issues if you bought one right away.

That PF-9 looks pretty sweet to me. I'm itchin to pick one up, but can't due to age restrictions.

ETA: Sorry, just read you want to stick with the calibers you've got, so ignore my input about the P3AT

If I had to go sub-compact, I'd probably get a HK P2000sk since that works for me. A G26/27 would be great if they fit you and you can shoot them OK.

I use the Kahr also as a "no other choice gun" but I agree somthing a little larger makes me more comfortable.

I like the Glock 27 for this role. I put the factory ten round G27 mag in it which sticks out a bit for your pinky and gives you one more round. I love this gun because I can use the flat mag for smallest size when concealability is a factor or use in ankle rig, ten round G27 mag for general carry, or G23 13 round mag with A&G grip extender and it makes the gun fit your hand like the G23.

I keep a couple extra G22 15 round mags in the car for extras

I carry it in a FIST K1 tucked in the front 1:30 to 2:00 position or Kramer belt scabbard strongside if weather and dress allows.

This same setup would work with the G26 or G33 but my duty gun is a .40 Glock 22 so I like the commonality of mags and ammo...

XD subcompacts are great.  They feel good in my hands.  The Glocks always feel like they are ready to jump out of my hand.  The XD fits better.  Seems like my hand is "in more" on the grip.
