I have an extra firing pin safety where the nickel plating started to flake off... I replaced it.

I was thinking about 'practicing' a recontour; rounding off the chamfered edge.  Have any of you tried this?  What process did you use?

I'm certain this would wear through the nickel plating in some areas - any troubles?

Thanks guys!  Oh, and add pics too!

I polish them, not necessarily re contour them... I have a drill chuck that has been removed from the drill... I hold the plunger with the chuck, give it a couple rotations on a Scotchbrite wheel, and a linen buffing wheel with some red rouge to polish it... use the linen wheel to polish the feed ramp...

So I did it.  It took forever using a sanding sponge but that's all I had handy.  The sponge wasn't firm enough (it'd give under pressure) that's why it took long.  I chucked it into my electric drill and matched it to the profile of an aftermarket 'titanium' fp safety...

I'll tell ya what - it makes the first 1/2 of the trigger pull SUPER smooth!!!  On a stock Glock, or one that's just polished you can hear the "click" of the trigger bar jumping up onto the safety... with the rounded contour, there's no noise/resistance!  It's pretty sweet.  I was careful not to make it shorter (height) or decrease the surface area that the trigger bar uses to keep the FPS out of the way.

This might only be worth doing for bragging rights, competitors that 'slap' the trigger instead of shooting from reset... or people with too much time on their hands looking for a project.  <<< Not worth doing if you have to buy tools, polish, sanding media, etc...

That said, try it out on an extra to see if you like it - they're cheap enough!

The final product looks the same!  The method just took WAY LONGER

Thanks!

Good link.

I've used emory paper, which is good for taking sharp edges off and getting a mirror finish on the FPS, but not that great for reprofiling to a a domed shape.
