Hi All,
I have a 4" Redhawk, which has just recently developed an issue. Occassionaly, it will lock up when after I close the cylinder with fresh rounds. This does occur even without ammo in the gun, so it's not related to a high primer or anything regarding ammo. When it locks up, I'm unable to cock the hammer SA, or fire the gun using DA action. I need to open cylinder and then it will probably cure itself (but not always). I've had it for about 6 months now and fired about 500 rounds through it. I just had it apart, but didn't see anything obvious causing the problem. Still doing the same thing after reassembly. Any thoughts as to what's causing this? Thanks in advance! |

A flake of unburned powder can work its way into a spring and bind it up.
Tear it down and clean it really good. Happened to me years ago with a Security Six. One of the springs in the trigger guard assembly had a flake of unburned powder caught in the spring. The cure is to only eject spent cases with the muzzle pointed straight up. Don't give flakes of powder a chance to fall into gun. |
