Just bought a used G19, Gen 2,  (my second one). . .there is some appreciable holster wear on the slide.

Is it possible to DIY refinish the slide?  I have refinished AR mags using Brownells Teflon paint. . . would something like that work––steel wool, degrease, paint, bake, etc––––, or is it going to end up looking like crap?

Is this something that is best left to a professional. . .or what?

I looked through the threads here, didn't really see any that addressed this, but if I missed them. . .sorry. .

I just bought a G32 and it has hostler wear on it also.  I want to get it refinished also so I am interested to know what to use on it.  Glock does do refinish jobs for 65 bones but I am thinking I want to do a custom job on it.  So if you like the Tenifer send it to Glock they will do the best job I would bet.

The tenifer is in the metal not the black finish that is visible.  If you want a factory finish I would recommend sending it back to Glock or you can try something like duracoat if you want to DIY.  You can also try sending your slide to Robar for refinishing.

If you do look into NP3, check out CCR.

Real big with SIGs, but he does work on quite a few guns (I learned of him on BerettaForum). Most of the reviews of cera-plate (similar to NP3), say it is better feeling than NP3. I've seen a few guns done in it, and I'm planning on doing my entire PX4 in it.

If anything, get a quote from him and compare it with Robar. I've had pretty much a complete gun done in his cera-hide, and his work is top notch.

Screwball: some years ago, I had my 870 and my Kahr K9 refinished by "Mac's Shootin' Irons" out in Arizona. . . he did a great job. . .

I looked at the CCR site, and I'm sure they do a great job. . but Mac can do a satin nickel on my Glock slide for $45 + return shipping. . . since it's not a gun, it won't cost me an arm and a leg to ship, so I'm thinking I'm gonna send it to MAC. . .

But thanks for the suggestion. . . I bought a can of manifold paint, but for $45, I think I'll let a pro do it. . .
