I do a fair amount of pistol shooting and have been working on reloads lately.  Aside from watching videos on the interwebs, I have no real gauge for what a really fast reload is.  I wrote down some times and splits from my range session this morning and was wondering if anyone has some reference times for reloads so I can see where I fall among the crowd.

I watch USPSA vids and try to be that fast.

I have hit under a second a few times.   A good day I can keep them around 1.1 seconds, with a couple years of solid USPSA practice.

Consistentcy is really more important than blistering speed.  Speed is really good though.

May I ask what type of reload scenario?

I don't shoot competition. I mostly practice my reloads using CCW type mag pouches and a cover shirt, I average around 2 seconds on a good day. I hit around 1.5 seconds average using reload "friendly" mag holders located at 9-11 O'clock in place of a more CCW 7-8 O'clock carry position and no cover shirt. As above, I think getting the reload consistently right is better for me than blistering speed risking a botched reload..

So true.  During my first real handgun training class I remember having a mag slip out of my hand while attempting an opposite hand tactical reload.  The way it hit the floor it proceeded to slide 15 feet downrange past the firing line.  Had to get a cease fire to retrieve it. Ha!  I learned right then and there how important the "slow is smooth" part was.  If that was in real life I might as well of not even had a reload on me.  Haven't unintentionally dropped another mag again since (yet).

I shoot against this guy weekly here in AZ.

These are some of my more realistic time frame reloads. B class (~73%) shooter in production

a REPEATABLE one second, shot-to-shot reload is pretty sporty.

From concealment or competition OP???

In the late '80s and early '90s 1.5 seconds reliably was considered an acceptable reload time for a good IPSC shooter.  This was before the mega sized mag wells seen today on double stack guns.  On good days I'd hit ~1.25 seconds back then with a 1911 and S&A magwell or a 2011 w/o magwell.

Thanks for all of the responses.  Im talking competition reloads here, not concealment.  Some great videos here and gives me something to aspire to.

Timing myself with my production gun on Thursday I was consistently 1.5 to 1.6 shot to shot from slide lock. I thought I was pretty damn fast until I saw some of your times and some of these videos.

I'll try and get a video this week at the range.  I'll also time some reloads with my limited gun.

Quit running your gun dry.  It hurts your reload time.

I don't do gun games as of yet, but a concealment slide lock reload for me is about 2.3 seconds consistently. 1911 without a mag funnel or anything.

OWB holsters, double stack magazines, or tapered top mags like a Beretta or Hi-Power along with "tactical" reloads would speed me up. I only practice slide lock, and retention reloads. I would never dump ammo during a fight, so I don't train that way.

If I post a youtube video of me reloading can someone time my reload?

Its a shitty reload but it would give me a baseline to go on

Why don't you download a shot timer on your smartphone, and just time from shot, reload, shot?
