I have a G19 and I switched out my stock front sight for a Hi Viz fiber optic one.  The Hi Viz has a hexagon type screw holding the sight in place and the sight I'm installing also has the same kind of screw.

My problem is I don't have the tool to remove the screw, do you guys know of anything you can use other than that paticular tool.  I tried using the smalles socket wrench I had but that didn't work.  Can I buy something from Home Depot?

I called my local gun store and they want $30 for a less than 5 minute job.  It's so damn easy to do if I had the right tool

please help

thanks

3/16 in. (i think thats the right size...) std. hex head nut driver should work...

you can buy it for $2 or a whole $10 for a whole set; sockets are too big and wont fit in the area

this should work:

I found out that sockets are to big so I went to Home Depot but they didn't have anything even close to what I needed.  It was basically all sockets

I used a regular hex bolt (sorry can't remember the size, but I'm sure they'll have one at Home Depot). Once you find the right size to fit over the screw of your front sight, you will probably need to file down the outside of the hex bolt head to give enough clearance to rotate in the Golck slide. Does this make sense ?

If you want me to tell you the exact size of hex bolt I used, just IM or EM me and I will check when I get home tonight.

At the request of WMHM4, here are some photos of the tool I made to install an aftermarket front sight on my Glock 22. Its just a 1/4-28 bolt; on the left of each photo is an original unmodified bolt, and on the right is the tool I made. Basically, I had to file away most of the bolt head so the tool would fit and rotate properly in the Glock slide.

If you cannot find a 1/4-28 hex bolt, I would imagine the more common 1/4-20 would do the job just as well, as all you care about is the hex-socket size. Of course, your particular front sight may have a different size screw and thus require you to use a different size hex bolt, but you get the general idea.

Oh, and very important: USE LOCTITE to secure the front sight screw. If you don't, it will not stay put for long. Good luck.

Thank you all indeed. Saved me from spending cash on a front site tool. The bolt took a little work to grind down since my Trijicon front site had the screw hole drilled in slanted. But the sights are on and working great now.
