I cleaned my 92FS tonight & had bought a replacement recoil spring for it as it had the original spring from when I bought the gun several years ago. The old one was over 1" shorter than the new one!!!!! Damn! No telling how much battering the frame was taking! REPLACE YOUR RECOIL SRINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This has been a public service message. |

Was your old spring shorter than the length of the barrel? If so you've had battering. How much would depend on the type of ammunition you've been using. Glad to hear you caught this. Just some info to add to the pile: Check over the inner rails to ensure that no cracks, pitting, or abnormal wear is apparent. Also check the front rails to ensure no cracks have formed where the forend of the slide engages it. Finally check your locking block to ensure no abnormal wear or cracks have formed. Usually a brand new 92FS recoil spring specs between 5 7/16 - 5 11/16 inches. You'll want to change out the spring well before you reach 5 inches, but that is the point you will absolutely need to change the recoil spring. Did you check your mainspring? A brand new one should spec at about 2 3/8 - 2 9/16 inches. You don't want the mainspring to be compressed more than 2 1/16 inches. |

That just goes back to the point of, check everyone thing that you buy from the internet gun show etc. I still have everything stock in mine (M9) to afraid they will give me a spring with the wrong tension or what not. Hope nothing happen to your firearm. -Martin |
