Ruger MKIII Hunter Firing Pin Stop Pin

I recently got back to shooting this pistol and when cleaning saw light through the hole. It appears to be a roll pin.

A couple posts on a forum indicated that a roll pin was used at one time.

Pistol works great!

Question is should I replace it. Comments indicated the roll pin is difficult to remove.

The solid pin is a bit looser, thus the don't lose it warning in the manual!

Any comments?

Yes you should replace it. A missing firing pin stop can allow the firing pin to impact the chamber which is not a good thing.

Thanks, I was thinking it should be replaced. There was a reason they only did it for a brief period then went back to the solid pin.

As of now, it is replaced.

Called Ruger Customer service and they sent me two solid pins. Used a 1/8 inch drill bit to remove the roll pin. Flat end on pin and tapped pointy end with a small hammer. Tapped in new and done!
